Our story

A bag you can take apart, and build again

Bag & Block began with a simple question: what if a bag did not have to stay the same for its whole life? Every bag is built by hand from small interlocking blocks, so the design on the outside can be changed as often as you like.

Bag and Block workshop

01 — The origin

It started with things that get thrown away

Water bottles. Milk cartons. Broken toys.

The idea that stuck was the simplest one: a bag you could take apart and put back together, as many times as you wanted.

Building blocks

02 — Who makes your bag

Two workshops, half a world apart

Both teams are made up of people living with long-term mental health conditions. The work is steady, safe and repetitive in the best sense: it keeps hands and minds active, and it is a real job with a real wage.

Sristi Foundation workshop

Sristi Foundation

Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, India

The base of every bag is assembled here, block by block, until the surface becomes a mesh that bends and holds its shape at the same time.

Zamora, Spain — Fundación Intras

The bag then travels to northern Spain, where the removable top design is hand-placed, checked and finished before it is packed.

Placing blocks by hand

03 — How it's made

Three to five hours, block by block

There is no machine for this. Each block is placed by hand until the bag is finished.

That is why no two bags are quite identical, and why the design on yours can be taken apart and rebuilt whenever you feel like a different one.
